Description

Film faced plywood, also called film face ply or black film plywood, is a tough, non structural sheet with a smooth black phenolic film on both faces. The film resists moisture and stops concrete sticking, which makes it a low-cost choice for formwork where a structural rating isn't required, and a hard-wearing surface for trailers, sheds and workshops.

We stock non structural film faced plywood in 2400 x 1200 sheets in 9mm, 12mm and 17mm.

Film faced plywood sizes

Sheet size Thickness Grade
2400 x 1200 mm 9 mm Non structural
2400 x 1200 mm 12 mm Non structural
2400 x 1200 mm 17 mm Non structural

What is film faced plywood used for?

The sealed black face is easy to clean, releases cleanly from concrete and stands up to rough site conditions. Common uses include:

  • Light-duty concrete formwork and edge forms
  • Trailer floors, ute trays and canopies
  • Shed and garage floors and wall linings
  • Workbench tops, shelving and storage
  • Site walkways and floor protection during renovations

Film faced ply is non structural. Where your formwork needs a structural rating, use F17 formply. If you need a structural sheet without the film face, look at Hoop Pine CD F14 structural plywood.

Film faced plywood FAQs

What's the difference between film faced plywood and F17 formply?

Both have a black film face. F17 formply carries a structural stress grade for load-bearing formwork, while film faced plywood is non structural and suits lighter-duty shuttering and general use at a lower cost.

Is film faced plywood waterproof?

The black film protects both faces from moisture and concrete, but cut edges should be sealed to keep water out.

Can I reuse film faced plywood for formwork?

Yes, with care. Clean sheets after each pour, apply a form release agent and seal cut edges to get more uses from each sheet.

What thickness film face ply should I use?

17mm is the usual choice for formwork and floors, while 9mm and 12mm sheets suit linings, trays, shelving and lighter-duty jobs.
