Concrete Reinforcing Mesh
Concrete reinforcing mesh, also called reo mesh or slab mesh, is a welded steel wire sheet that sits inside a concrete slab to add strength and control cracking. It's the standard reinforcement for house slabs, driveways, footpaths and shed bases.
We stock SL72, SL82 and SL92 reo mesh in 6.0m x 2.4m sheets.
Reo mesh sizes available
| Mesh | Sheet size |
|---|---|
| SL72 | 6.0m x 2.4m |
| SL82 | 6.0m x 2.4m |
| SL92 | 6.0m x 2.4m |
What is reo mesh used for?
Builders and concreters place reinforcing mesh in the slab before the pour. The steel spreads loads across the slab and holds it together as the concrete cures and the ground moves over time. Common uses include:
- House slabs and extensions
- Driveways and paths
- Shed, garage and carport slabs
- Patios, pool surrounds and general concrete bases
Mesh sheets are also handy around the yard as a sturdy trellis for climbing plants and vegetable gardens.
For extra strength at edges, beams and footings, add deformed reinforcing bar. For fencing, screening and light-duty jobs that don't go in concrete, look at our welded wire mesh panels.

Reo mesh FAQs
What's the difference between SL72, SL82 and SL92 mesh?
All three are slab mesh in the same 6.0m x 2.4m sheet size. The higher the number, the heavier the wire, so SL92 is the heaviest and SL72 the lightest. Your engineer's plans or slab specification will tell you which mesh to use.
What reo mesh do I need for a driveway?
SL82 is a common choice for residential driveways, while SL72 is often used for paths and light-duty slabs. Always follow your engineer's or council's specification for your job.
How many sheets of mesh do I need?
Each sheet covers 6.0m x 2.4m. Work out your slab area, allow for sheets to overlap at the joins, and talk to our team if you'd like help with quantities.
Can I cut reo mesh to size?
Yes. Mesh can be cut on site with bolt cutters or an angle grinder to fit around edges and penetrations.
